Do you want to change how you feel about your backyard in Hermosa Beach? Do you wish you could expand your yard? Even without the option to buy land, you can change the feel of our outdoor spaces by using Feng Shui in your backyard! Feng Shui is based on the principle that objects around us influence our lives. If we alter how energy flows around our surroundings, our happiness, prosperity, and health can increase.
The first principle of Feng Shui is to be organized and tidy. All those gardening tools, children’s toys, or spare plants you have sitting around? Tidy it up! Make sure grass is cut, rocks are in place, the yard is generally picked up, weeds are pulled, and edges are trimmed. This promotes a calm mind and is a great starting point.
Kick the clutter to the curb. Clutter isn’t just ugly; it is detrimental to your mind and creates stress. Get rid of lawn maintenance items you never use. If you don’t take joy in maintaining your yard, try to hire someone who does. Decluttering your possessions and mental stressors can help energy begin to move.
Have a complimentary color scheme and furniture. Furniture colors should blend harmoniously with the colors of nature and those of your home. Additionally, ensure that all outdoor furniture and features are matching and not clunky or too large for the space, lest it disrupt the energy.
Restructure according to five elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. First, remove or replace dying plants! All plant life needs to be in a healthy state for energy to move. Water is a symbol of wealth, so add a water feature such as a pond, waterfall, or pool.
Create separate working and resting areas. Delineate working garden space, keep your tools there, and separate apart from other areas, such as where you relax on a chaise lounge. Similarly, if you have a pool to play in, keep pool supplies away from it. This is the principle of yin and yang – balancing two opposing energies is essential.
