The obvious answer to this question is that it depends on the scale and complexity of the project. Some factors that affect the duration of a landscape or hardscape project include: client preferences, property evaluation, design complexity, and budget. In this article, we break down a few factors that may affect the duration of your landscape or softscape project
There are typically two phases to each project: the design phase and the construction phase.
DESIGN PHASE
Step 1: The phone consultation
The project begins with our client sending some inspiration photos and a few notes to give us a general idea of what you’re looking to accomplish. This fuels a productive conversation with the owner of our company and renowned landscape designer Sina Kamran. During the phone consultation Sina will absorb all of the details of the vision for your space and your objectives. Some notes Sina and you will hit are: budget, timeline, design concepts and more to gain a well-rounded idea of the project.
Step 2: Budget Estimation
The Design Scapes team will create an itemized, detailed budget for your project. Every project we take on is unique and the price will depend heavily on the design we decide on. We want you to love your new outdoor space, but an added benefit is that undertaking this project adds 7.0% value on average to a home. We pride ourselves on transparency, so your estimate will be comprehensive and easy to understand. Here are some factors to keep in mind about the estimate we provide:
• The design phase accounts for approximately 2.0-5.0% of the total installation cost
• Your project can be installed in phases to alleviate the burden of one big cost all at once. Completing the project within your vision is what’s most important.
• We design and construct the right way without cutting unnecessary corners. The cost of labor is based on the amount of effort required to execute your vision properly
Step 3: Property Evaluation
After an initial estimate has been accepted, we conduct a thorough property evaluation to take into account any unique architecture or natural characteristics your property already has. It’s important for us to gain a complete understanding of your vision and property because the next step is the design phase…
Step 4: Design and Review
The design process involves examining numerous designs, patterns, materials and color schemes that align with your vision. An initial design concept is created to grasp an idea of where we’re headed. Once you’ve had time to look it over, we move into a thorough revision phase where your input is the most important part. Just a few factors we take into account when designing are: material availability, budget, installation obstacles, cohesiveness with your pre-existing structures. Design your landscape or hardscape project with these points in mind helps us avoid unexpected delays and deliver on time. The project is then rendered in 3D to provide an accurate preview of what your property is going to look like.
Step 5: Design Confirmation and Final Quote
Once we’ve established a design you love, we provide a final quote for the work we’d like to do. We take pride in the precision of our quotes, and we don’t lowball a bid to win the job. Our quotes are honest and sincere. We take into account existing conditions on your property, local codes from the city and previously agreed upon materials and designs. We continue our transparency throughout the entire project. If any modification needs to be made from the original plan or quote, we get your approval before taking action.
After confirming the final design of the project and the final quote, the project is scheduled. Depending on the speed of decision-making, the entire design process could take between one and two months, with an average duration of five to six weeks
INSTALLATION PHASE
Step 6: Scheduling
Before any physical work occurs, we provide you with a project timeline outlining the dates of material orders and when they’ll be delivered, installation days and payment dates. We guarantee that you’ll never be left wondering about the status of your project or when you’re expected to make a payment.
Step 7: Material Waiting
Some steps in the installation process can begin without the materials being delivered, but we aim to cause you as little inconvenience as possible. We’re sensitive to the fact that we’re working at your home and peace is important. For this reason, we schedule our work around material deliveries. If there’s something super unique about the design we’re doing on your property, there may be some initial steps as well.
Step 8: Installation
This is where the physical work begins. During this phase, the designer and team manager work together to install your project while prioritizing your vision and preventing errors before they come up. As an estimate: for every $10,000 spent on the design, the installation will take approximately five days.
Step 9: Project Cleanup and Small Details
During the installation process we prioritize keeping a clean workspace, but after the work is done we’ll do a final sweep to ensure your property is looking its best. We leave your property in pristine condition, taking care of any construction debris or surplus material.
Step 10: Final Inspection
The final step inspection includes a walkthrough with you. Here we’ll go over the tasks we completed, warranty information as well as explain to you how to maintain your new property going forward. We’re always available for several follow-up visits to guarantee our work should you need us.
Design Scapes will schedule your landscaping or hardscaping project.
Every client is unique and important to us, so we work on one project at a time. Many companies in Southern California overbook themselves and spread their team too thin. At Design Scapes, we prioritize quality over quantity. We design one-of-a-kind outdoor spaces that you’ll love for years to come. Projects like these require individualized care.
